The Brazilian midfielder had only scored two goals in his time at Stamford Bridge prior to the game, but he bagged a brace as the Blues claimed an easy win.

Fernando Torres had already given the home side the lead on the half hour before Ramires doubled their advantage, collecting Ashley Cole’s pass and firing in from the right of the box.

It looked as if things may get more difficult for last season’s league runners-up when Torres was sent off shortly afterwards for a two-footed lunge.

But with 15 minutes remaining, Ramires was able to cut inside past Swansea defender Ashley Williams before calmly side-footing in his second.

Williams pulled one back for the visitors but Didier Drogba scored to restore Chelsea’s three-goal winning margin.

David Luiz was an unused substitute after playing 120 minutes in last Wednesday’s extra-time win over Fulham in the League Cup, while Alex was unavailable after being sent off in the same game.
