After a goalless first half, Germany raced into a two-goal lead, and although Brazil managed to pull one back, the hosts added a third. The Seleção were able to score another, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.

“Germany won because they are in better form,” said Menezes. “I have said since the World Cup in South Africa that they were one of the teams that played the best football there. That made it possible for them to continue their work with the same foundations.”

He continued: “They are a team who serve as a test of your strength. That is why we play friendlies with this difficulty level. We were equal to them at times in the game, but we did not do enough to deserve victory.”

Meanwhile, Neymar thinks that the Brazil side needs more time to settle and come together as a team if they are to start picking up wins over the top nations.

“This is not the result we wanted, but we need to keep our heads held high to continue the work,” said the 19-year-old, who scored Brazil’s second goal. “We need more time to get things going.”
