Ney Franco’s side took the lead after just 12 minutes when Santos’ Porto-bound defender Danilo powerfully headed in Philippe Countinho’s corner from seven yards.

However, it was a mistake from Danilo that allowed Egypt to equalise. The young right-back completely mis-kicked an attempted clearance, which allowed Omar Gaber to fire a shot in under Brazil ‘keeper Gabriel on 26’.

Willian had a goal disallowed for the Seleção as they pushed for the winner, but in truth Egypt were the better side for large sections of the game.

The other game in the group saw Austria and Panama play out a 0-0 draw, meaning all four teams in Group E have one point after their opening game.

Brazil will look to improve and pick up a win in their next game when they take on Austria on Monday.
