Marta, nicknamed “Pele with a skirt”, has one five time the FiFA Player of the World Award but she wants more collective titles. She told the Independent on Sunday that she wanted to take Brazil one step beyond.

Like the past two World Cup, Marta will be the player to watch: she has scored an average of one goal per game over the last two tournaments. That is three goals in the USA in 2003 and seven goals in China in 2007.

If the stats are impressive we also have to bear in mind that Marta is not alone. Her partnership with Cristiane is lethal for the opponents defense. The duo scored 17 goals in the last South American Women’s Championship in 2010.
