Gomes made a number of high profile errors for Spurs last season and was linked with a move away from North London. The speculation increased further when Brad Friedel joined from Aston Villa earlier this month.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been rumoured as a target for his former club PSV, from whom he joined Spurs in 2008, but Brands says such a move is unlikely at present.

“I do not count on the arrival of Gomes,” Brands told Voetbal International. “We have our first keeper Andreas Isaksson and Gomes is still the first goalkeeper for Tottenham. There are no signs that this will change.”

It is thought that PSV are unable to match Gomes’ wages, and so he may stay at White Hart Lane to compete for the number one jersey with Friedel and Carlo Cudicini.
