Sao Paulo claim their first win of the season against Internacional

Sao Paulo finally moved away from the relegation zone after recording their first win of the season against Internacional.

Internacional handed Sao Paulo their first Brasileirão win after eight games. Tricolor won 2-0 at Beira-Rio on Wednesday night to avoid relegation, despite having played more games. In the first half, Rigoni was the man of the moment, scoring one early goal, having another ruled out by the VAR, and failing to score on several more occasions. Colorado, on the other hand, has been without a win at home for the past eight games.

The game got off to a rapid start, with Sao Paulo scoring first. Rigoni, who was in terrific form, dribbled by Daniel with speed and buried the ball into the back of the net to put the visitors up in the first few minutes. Following their goal, Tricolor became more aggressive and made it 2-0 in a matter of minutes. However, after the VAR review, it was ruled out.

Inter attempted to resurrect their game after 20 minutes, but were unable to do so.

Rigoni then attempted to score his second goal in the 27th minute, but his effort was blocked. Rigoni squandered two more opportunities in front of goal to give his team a comfortable lead, before the break.

Emiliano Rigoni was forced to leave the game during the halftime break owing to muscle discomfort. Despite Rigoni’s absence, Sao Paulo continued their pace, and three minutes into the second half, they hit Daniel’s crossbar.

The second goal arrived in the 51st minute, as Daniel Alves took a free kick in the box that was only half cleared by Pedro Henrique, allowing Igor Gomes to hit a beautiful volley.

Internacional did not threaten much in the second half of the game, making no attempt on goal to score and pull a goal back, or even get an equalizer. The rest of the game consisted solely of waiting until the final whistle was blown.

The result saw Tricolor finally move out of the relegation zone.

Inter will meet Gremio in the 11th round on Saturday at the Arena. On the same day, Sao Paulo hosts Bahia in Morumbi.
