Atlético-MG failed to match both Internacional and Flamengo who share the same point at the top of the table with the loss but still has the chance to do so since the Verdão and Galo both have a game less to play in the competition.

Palmeiras once again showed how well they have improved under the leadership of Andrey Lopes going at it against Atlético-MG with intensity and with quick transition of play and passing the ball around.

The home side got on the score sheet quick enough.  In the 19th minuteRaphael Veiga met Viña’s cross to put his side on the lead.

Galo midfielder Zaracho was well marked by the palmeirense side and was barely seen with the ball on the occasion. Verdão were more dangerous in the final third and had 11 shots on goal before the break. Atlético had only six.

In the second half, Atlético came back from the break with more hunger and made Palmeiras sit back.

Not long into to second period, the home extended their lead. In the 70th minute, Rony at the break scored the second goal for the home side.

Shortly after, just seven minutes after the second goal, the home side scored their third with the same move as the second. Following a counter attack, Wesley added his name to the score sheet ending the game 3-0.

Palmeiras returns to face Bragantino this Thursday at Allianz Parque or the return game of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. Atletico-MG, meanwhile, will play next Sunday against Flamengo in Mineirão.
