Palmeiras announce they have terminated the contract of Ramires
On Friday evening, Palmeiras announced their decision to terminate the contract of Ramires after series of uncertainty and the recent controversy surrounding the player. According to the statement by the club, the decision took place via ‘mutual agreement’ and the player still even had two and a half years left on his contract.
As per reports, the 33-year-old recently approached the Palmeiras hierarchy to discuss a possible contract termination which he clearly gave his reasons for.
He was also not pleased with the criticism he had suffered of late. Further talks for the player’s exit advanced this week after the club were able to welcome more players who recovered from covid-19 diagnosis.
Ramires had already grown to have a ‘broken’ image at the club following continuous criticism from fans and recent off-the-pitch problems as well. To that effect, the decision to leave the club was one that was acceptable by both player and club.
The 33-year-old was in the starting lineup against Delfin last Wednesday in the Libertadores and even got good praise from manager Abel Ferreira.
Ramires recently got sanctioned by the club for getting pictured at a nightclub right in the thick of the coronavirus pandemic. The player got stick for it and even had to apologize on his social media accounts.
The ex-Chelsea man has been unable to reach his known quality on the pitch and has suffered criticism right since he arrived at the club last year. Injuries have not helped his course any further as well.
Ramires played 45 matches and only managed just one goal for Palmeiras.
