São Paulo continued to keep the pressure on league leaders Atletico Mineiro following their 3-1 win away to Bahia on Saturday night. The result sees them back to winning ways after two consecutive games with a draw.

After a goalless first half, the game came alive in the second period and São Paulo saw a dominant period where they scored three goals in the space of 22 minutes. Clayson Henrique grabbed a consolation goal for Bahia nine minutes from time.

The first half was pretty bland from both sides asides a few chances here and there.

Just before the break, Bahia almost took the lead with Gregore but Volpi was equal to the task with a world class save to keep the scores level going into half time.

In the second half, it was a totally different game. São Paulo came out desperate for a goal and it took then only seven minutes before they got their breakthrough through Luciano. The goal was a brilliant one that came via a bicycle kick goal that hit Juninho and went in.

Igor Gomes had the opportunity to extend São Paulo’s lead but his header went wide. In the 66th minute, Arboleda extended his side’s lead before Luciano grabbed his second of the night eight minutes later to put São Paulo 3-0 up.

Bahia eventually managed to pull one back in the 81st minute via Clayson but it turned out to be a mere consolation.

The victory sees São Paulo just one point behind Atlético-MG who are in first place.

For their next outing, Bahia travel to Argentina to take on Union Santa Fe in the second leg of the Copa Sudamericanna. São Paulo take on Goais next on Thursday in another Brasileirão game.
