It has been the common theme of late and São Paulo once again dropped points in the Brazilian Championship.

After a 2-1 win over Grêmio last week, Tricolor looked on course for their second successive win but lost it all in the last minute. A stalemate means both São Paulo and Palmeiras now have just one win from their last five games.

In a game valid for a postponed clash from the 34th round, São Paulo and Palmeiras locked horns in Morumbi.

The first half was dominated by Palmeiras in terms of possession but it was a game with few chances altogether. In fact, it was no surprise that the opener came from a set-piece.

It took until the final quarter of the game before an opener eventually popped up. The referee had a tough game with lots of difficult calls to make and another came with a penalty in favor of São Paulo.

Luciano stepped up to score the resulting penalty in the75th minute to give his side the lead. The goal saw the striker continue his impressive form as he moved up to 17 goals this season. He is now level with Marinho, Thiago Galhardo and Claudinho in a heated race for the top-scorer award.

São Paulo looked primed to win the game but the current Libertadores champions had other plans in mind. Ron grabbed the equalizer in the fourth minute of extra time to secure a crucial point right at the very end.

São Paulo no longer have a chance at the title and their only focus now is to secure a direct spot in the group stage of Libertadores 2021. If results go their way, Palmeiras still have a chance to pip either of Gremio or Fluminense for a spot in the Libertadores qualifiers.
