Internacional top their group and advance further in the Libertadores

Internacional played out to a draw against Always Ready but it was just enough to see them progress in the continental competition.

Inter put out their best foot on Wednesday night but it was not enough against Always Ready as they could only play out to a goalless draw in Biera-Rio. Goalkeeper Lampe proved to be a thorn in Colorado’s path and they struggled in the second half. However, the result was still enough to see Inter finish Group B with 10 points and top of the pile.

Inter dominated most of the game and it was quite evident in the fact that they had 75% of the ball.

They had lots of chances to kill the game but a lack of efficiency in the final third was their biggest undoing. They had 21 total shots in the game but 11 were off target. Goalkeeper Lampe was a shining light all through and made six important saves in the course of the game.

In the latter stages of the game, Inter boss Ramírez made some changes in his attack for better efficiency but there was no effect whatsoever at the end of the day.

Despite all of the dominance by Inter, they could have suffered a defeat and it could have ended up even worse. In a quick move, Always Ready had a clear cut chance via a counterattack after Taison lost hold of the ball. Mosquera outpaced his markers and came face to face with the Inter goalie who did just enough to thwart the attempt.

For their next outing, Inter will switch their focus to the Brazilian Championship where they take on Sport Recife in their first game of the campaign. Always Ready are already out of the Libertadores. The round of 16 draw will take place on Tuesday but the competition won’t resume until July.
