Juventude defeated 2-0 at Alfredo Jaconi on Wednesday, making it four games without a loss after going five games without a win earlier in the season. Paulinho Boia scored a stunning goal in the first half, and Matheus Peixoto sealed the victory late in the game by capitalizing on Paulo Miranda’s miscue. Caxias do Sul is currently in sixth place, three points behind fourth-placed Fortaleza. Grêmio continue to struggle and remain at the bottom of the league, without a single win so far this season.

It seemed like it was going to be their night as Grêmio opened the game on the higher front. Douglas Costa challenged Marcelo Carne twice from outside the 18-yard box in the first few minutes. Juventude regained control of the game after the setback in the first half’s opening minutes. Wesley had two good chances to take the lead, but he blew both of them.

Paulinho Boia, on the other hand, was ruthless. The attacker hit a rebound volley to put the hosts ahead after multiple attempts.

Guilherme Castilho was denied another chance to extend Juventude’s advantage after receiving a wonderful pass from Paulinho inside the penalty box.

At the start of the second half, Matheus Henrique was awarded a free kick in the Juventude goal area, but Marcelo Carné saved it. Paulinho Boia forced Chapecó to make another save later in the game.

The hosts began to cause more problems with set-pieces halfway through the second half.

Tiago Nunes was unable to get Grêmio to produce more chances for the equalizer despite making various substitutions.

Paulo Miranda, on the other hand, had a moment to forget after the goalkeeper made a defensive blunder, dropping the ball at the feet of Peixoto, allowing the striker to score and the hosts to secure the victory.

For their next games, Juventude will meet Ceará on Sunday in Fortaleza while Grêmio will face Atlético-GO at the Arena.
