Grêmio and Atlético-MG shared a point a piece on Wednesday as the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Atlético opened up the scoring in the first half through a penalty from Hyoran before substitute Everton equalised late on just after five minutes after coming off the bench.

Tricolor started out the game slightly better than the visitors; they had more of the ball but didn’t have the best chances.

Against the run of play, Atlético drew first blood in the 32nd minute when Hyoran converted from the penalty spot after Arana was brought down in the 18-yard box by Thaciano.

However, the hosts resumed the second half with better efficiency than their opening 45 minutes in search for an equalizer but the visitors still had the better chances. 11 minutes after the break, Vargas almost doubled the visitors’ advantage and forced a great save from Vanderlei.

After that, Atlético got lots of other opportunities to get on the mark for the second time but failed to make their chances count. Vargas forced several other saves from Vanderlei before Grêmio finally got their equalizer.

Everton got on the mark five minutes after being substituted in. The midfielder got to the end of a loose ball after a rough display at the back of the Rooster defence that allowed the 32-year-old to pounce on.

Atlético failed to close the gap between second place São Paulo and leaders Inter with the draw and sit in third place, five points away from the top. They travel to São Januário to face Vasco on Saturday.

Grêmio on the other hand, have now gone three games without a win, drawing all three of them. They sit in sixth place after the draw and travel to face new leaders Internacional in a classic game on Sunday.
