Flamengo claim comfortable win over América-MG in the Brazilian Championship

In the absence of Gabriel Barbosa, Flamengo made light work of América-MG and strolled to an easy win in their third league game.

Despite numerous wasted opportunities, Flamengo easily defeated América-MG 2-0 at Maracanã on Sunday. In a game in which the Rio squad had complete control, Bruno Henrique and Rodrigo Muniz scored the game-winning goals.

Flamengo’s domination was evident from the onset, and it was clear that they would be in charge of the game.

The home team enjoyed a lot of ball control and had a lot of chances to score more than they did. It was a game where they could easily have doubled the final score-line at the end of the day.

In the seventh minute, the referee even signaled a penalty for Bruno Henrique, but the VAR informed him that the attacker was offside, and the penalty was cancelled.

After a wonderful move by Vitinho, Bruno Henrique found the back of the net in the 24th minute to put the Rio team ahead.

The situation remained the same throughout the second half. Flamengo dominated, creating more opportunities, while América-MG tried but failed to get their counterattacks off the ground.

Flamengo had numerous other chances to add to their goal total, with Maurcio Souza also on the bench. However, the squad scored the second goal which was scored by the young Rodrigo Muniz, thanks to another assist from Vitinho. Gerson, who was undoubtedly the finest player on the pitch, almost made it three with a heel kick that hit the crossbar with the game being practically over.

Flamengo will play Coritiba in the final game of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday. On Saturday, they will face Bragantino for their next match in the Brazilian Championship.

América-MG will have the chance to get back on track in the Brazilian Championship on Thursday when they face Cuiabá.
