A well-taken goal by Régis, in the debut of coach Ney Franco was enough to seal all three points for Raposa. The result was important to keep Cruzeiro away from the relegation zone. For Rubro-Negro, the result came as a hard blow with the team missing a good chance to break into the top four.

With the need to take points off the game, Cruzeiro started better, tried to pressure the opponent, but were not efficient enough. This became clear as time went by as Vitoria started playing more compact and began to feel at ease in the game. However, they failed to finish off their counterattacks when they stole the ball in the middle.

Both teams tried to break the deadlock in the first half but it ended up goalless.

Cruzeiro returned from the interval much better, with a more productive possession of the ball, creating chances and cornering their opponents. Vitoria started to struggle and even looked tired already in the middle of the second half.

With chance after chance wasted, Cruzeiro finally got their chance in the 76th minuteAfter a lot of insistence, Régis headed in after a beautiful cross by Arthur CaíkeIt was a beautiful team goal in general as the counterattack started all the way from the goalkeeper. Raposa then held on for a much needed win on the evening.

With the result, Cruzeiro reaches eight points, climbs three positions and now occupies the 13th position. Vitória remains in eighth place with 13 points.

With little time to rest, Vitória travel to Rio Grande do Sul and will take on Juventude on Monday. Cruzeiro play two days earlier against CSA.
