Chilean midfielder Claudio Maldonado has announced on twitter that he is joining Corinthians. He signed a contract until the end of the year.
Maldonado played for Flamengo until last year and has since then been recovering from a knee injury at Corinthians training ground.
He posted on his twitter account: “Friends, I can now say that I am a Corinthians player. I have signed my contract. What else can I ask? Thank you!”
The 33-year old midfielder is not expected to start, but will fight for a position with highly-rated defensive mifielder Ralf, who has not been called up for the Confederations Cup.
Corinthians have been needing an additional defensive midfielder since Guilherme Andrade had a serious knee injury that will leave him out of the football pitches for 5 months.
Willian Arão is the team’s remaining defensive midfielder, but he is deemed too inexperienced.
