Reports reveal that the club paid less than 2 million dollars for the player’s release. In addition, the arrival of the Chilean ends the negotiations that have gone on for the past two weeks. 

Eduardo Vargas is expected in Belo Horizonte this Saturday for his medicals before the official signing of the final documents with Atlético. 

Facing the imminent departure, the striker had already been cut from the Tigres squad for Saturday’s match against Atlas for the Mexican Championship. 

Vargas is another player endorsed by Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli. He will be the 11th reinforcement of the coach. Before him, they were hired by Atlético in the “Sampaoli era”: Léo Sena (on loan from Spezia, from Italy), KenoMarronyBuenoJunior AlonsoAlan FrancoMarianoEduardo Sasha, Everson and Matías Zaracho. Throughout the season, counting the pre-Sampaoli period, Atlético have already announced 19 signings. 

Vargas is an old acquaintance of Jorge Sampaoli. They were champions of the Copa Sudamericana with Universidad de Chile. Still under the command of the Argentine, but in the Chilean team, the player was champion and top scorer of the 2015 Copa America. 

Now, Galo has six foreigners in the main group: Junior Alonso, Alan FrancoSavarinoDylan BorreroMatías Zaracho and Eduardo Vargas. By the regulations of the Brazilian Championship, the only competition the club still competes in the season, only five can be listed per game and it means one of the above players will miss out. 

In Brazilian football, Eduardo Vargas played for Grêmio in 2013 when he played 37 matches and scored nine goals.
