Without their starter available, Leão had two goals from striker David, and stretched their unbeaten game to ten, eight in the Brasileirão, one in the Copa do Brasil and one in the Ceará Championship. Verdão marked their fourth consecutive defeat as well.

In the first half, The Lion’s first chance came just nine minutes into the game.

In the 18th minutes, Palmeiras responded following a corner kick situation, but Max did well to save their efforts. In the 35th minuteDavid took advantage of Ronald’s mistakes and opened up the scoring for Leão. Though the goal was ruled out by the referee, with the help of VAR the goal was reinstated. In the 41st minute, David extended his side’s advantage.

In the second half, Palmeiras gained speed growing into the game, with the entries of Willian and Wesley, but with the same outcome.

Fortaleza stayed further behind to hold on to their lead, preventing palmeirenses to find space to create chances to operate. Gustavo Gómez was later sent off late in the second half by referee Marcelo de Lima and needed to be restrained by his teammates.
