Corinthians have virtually sealed the new destination of Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato by accepting the proposal of La Liga side Villarreal on the afternoon of Monday.
After a meeting at the club’s training centre, Corinthians accepted a €3 million proposal submitted by the Spanish club for 60% of the economic rights of the attacker. The other 40% of rights belong to the player himself. Former president of Corinthians, Andrés Sánchez, who’s still active within the club, has confirmed the sale of the 26-year-old. Pato has a contract with Corinthians until the end of this year, and was on loan at Premier League side Chelsea from January. Despite the optimism, bureaucratic details still prevent the official announcement of the transfer. Corinthians bought Pato from AC Milan in 2013 for a club-record transfer fee of €15 million. During his two-year loan spell at São Paulo, Corinthians still had to pay half of his wages. Including the €7.3 million wages paid to Pato since 2013, the Brazilian club have made a loss of €17 million.
