The 35-year-old centre-back says that he is in good physical shape but that his debut for the Verdão side is not imminent.

“It’s difficult for me to say exactly when I’m going to play. I can’t predict the future,” said the player who spent the second half of 2013 frozen out of the first-team at previous club São Paulo. “I don’t remember when it was but my last game was against Inter,” said the veteran.

Indeed, Lúcio’s last appearance was in São Paulo’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Inter, on 24 July. The defender was in an advanced positioned and was unable to make it back in time to prevent Leandro Damião from scoring the decisive goal for the visitors to the Morumbi.

“I was frozen out of games but not of training. I managed to maintain a good level of fitness and this was proved to be the case when I had my medical here at Palmeiras. Now I’m looking to keep working hard with the group, work with the ball and get back into the rhythm of the game again,” said the 2002 World Cup winner.
