Palmeiras have ruled out a move for striker Fred who is currently a free agent after being released from his contract with French club Lyon.

Reports had suggested that Palmeiras had opened negotiations with the 24 year old after the striker had fallen out of favour with Lyon, but Palmeiras’ director of football Toninho Cecílio has confirmed that no offer has been made.

Palmerias’ lack of interest in Fred could however be good move for Fluminense. The ‘Tricolor Carioca’ have been chasing Fred in recent weeks and this latest news could finally land the Rio based club their man.

Alexandre Faria who as a technical director based role at Flu, travelled to France at the beginning of the month and returned to Brazil claiming that a deal with Fred was close to being confirmed.

Fred originally joined Lyon in 2005 after catching the imagination of clubs across Europe with his performances for Cruzeiro. However after a promising first season with Lyon, Fred has since fallen out of favour and finished his career in France training with the Lyon Under 18 team.
