In a defining match on Friday, Al-Hilal secured a 3-1 victory over Al-Riyadh, making their claim for the 19th Saudi Pro League title almost a certainty. This victory, their 27th in a row across all competitions, matched the world record set by The New Saints.

With a forthcoming match against Al-Ittihad in the Asian Champions League, Al-Hilal stands on the brink of surpassing this record. Their lead over Al-Nassr has now ballooned to 12 points, firmly placing them at the top of the standings.

The game against Al-Riyadh, a newly promoted team, was far from easy. Al-Riyadh initially took the lead and challenged Al-Hilal throughout the match. Offsides dominated the early proceedings, with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Abdullah Al-Hamdan both having goals disallowed due to the tight calls.

Despite these setbacks, Al-Hilal maintained their composure. The equalizer seemed inevitable and eventually came, although it was Al-Riyadh who celebrated first, only for their goal to also be ruled offside. Al-Hilal created numerous chances, with Mitrovic, in particular, missing narrowly.

The game’s turning point came with a penalty save by Martin Campana from Mitrovic, keeping Al-Riyadh in the game. However, Al-Hilal’s persistent pressure paid off. Ruben Neves scored from the penalty spot, followed by a goal from Michael and a redemption penalty by Mitrovic in added time to seal the 3-1 victory.

This match wasn’t just about extending a winning streak; it was a display of Al-Hilal’s resilience and ability to overcome adversity. Their path to victory was marked by moments of challenge, but ultimately, they showcased their championship pedigree, reinforcing their position at the top of the league standings.
