In an unconventional turn of events, Al Hilal is eyeing the acquisition of Brazilian attacker Matheus Pereira. Rather than following the usual pattern of teams paying for their desired players, Al Hilal has taken an intriguing approach.

The Riyadh-based club is urging Cruzeiro, Pereira’s current team, to part with 12 million euros ($13 million) to expedite the termination of the midfielder’s contract, set to conclude on June 30, 2024.

With Neymar sidelined due to a season-ending injury and a vacant spot in the lineup, Al Hilal sees Pereira as the perfect remedy. Despite the urgency to bolster their squad, the Saudi Arabian side is unwilling to wait until summer and is eager to secure Pereira’s services in the upcoming winter transfer window. Complicating matters, Pereira himself is reluctant to commit to a contract extension.

The key question now hinges on whether Cruzeiro will agree to Al Hilal’s unusual financial demand. If the Brazilian side rejects their plea, they will be compelled to explore alternative options or foot the bill themselves.
