Brazilian defender Andre Santos says that injuries were one of the main reasons that his two-season spell at Arsenal ended so abruptly.
Santos joined the club in August 2011 and after a promising start, obtained a bad ankle injury. He eventually left for Flamengo in the summer of 2013.
He told Haberturk, “My first season went very well, I played in a lot of matches. But in my second season, I had very bad luck with injuries. I haven’t had many injuries in my other teams.
“I had three injuries which kept me out of the action for quite a long time. After that, the club decided to sign Nacho Monreal. I wanted a return to Fenerbahce but Arsene Wenger refused to let me re-join them.”
Instead Santos was loaned to Grêmio in February 2013, before joining Mano Menezes’ Flamengo permanently later that year.
