Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster says he will refuse to play, if he were selected ahead of teammate Huerelho Gomes for next month’s FA Cup Final against Manchester City.

Foster is the Hornets’ first choice, but Gomes has been played ahead of him in cup games, including Sunday’s breathless 3-2 win over Wolves in the semi-final.

Gomes will almost certainly retire in the summer, meaning the FA Cup Final would be the final game of his career.

Some reports suggest boss Javi Gracia might be tempted to select Foster for a daunting final against City, but Foster has moved to quash speculation.

“Gomes deserves it and should play without a doubt," he told BBC Sport. "He has never let this club down and never will. He was fantastic today.

“Gomes was enjoying this moment like a boy. I would absolutely refuse to play if I were picked.”
