Everton boss Marco Silva insists he is entirely happy with the fee Everton paid to Watford for Brazilian forward Richarlison last summer.

The 21-year old moved to Goodison Park for a fee that could eventually rise to £50m, which raised some eyes at the time.

Silva says this is the economic reality of buying from other Premier League clubs and that the player has represented value.

“Of course, many people were a little bit surprised with the money we spent on him," he said. “And you know Premier League is really tough when trying to buy from other clubs.

“Even to buy a player from the Championship is really, really tough. A good example is what Leicester paid for Maddison, and that shows the player has quality but that also shows how difficult it is to buy players here.

"The Premier League is more difficult but even if you go into the Championship it is really difficult also, and is getting worse.

“But with regards to paying one price for a player, I always say that if the club is paying that fee, it is because they feel that player is worth that money.

"We took that decision, we wanted that player and the club decided 'we can pay that'. And after that you have to see how the player adapts but you cannot have doubts about his ability as a football player."
