Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained his decision to leave Roberto Firmino on the bench in Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The Brazilian hurt his ankle in last week’s 0-0 draw at Old Trafford and also missed the 5-1 win over Watford on Wednesday night.

Firmino was passed fit for the match at Goodison where another stalemate saw Liverpool stay in 2 nd place, 1 point behind Manchester City.

However, Klopp decided not to play Firmino from the start, instead introducing him in the second half.

“Bobby trained on Saturday and it looked really good, so he is on the bench because he is a good option.

“I didn’t think it was necessary to bring him immediately after the good game we played on Wednesday. We’ll try it like this. We have very good options, that’s important.”
