Brazil forward Neymar says he was delighted to accept the Seleção captaincy, insisting he has learned a lot since relinquishing the armband in 2016. Tite confirmed that he has halted his rotational policy and appointed Neymar as full-time skipper.

The player came in for lots of criticism during this summer’s World Cup for his histrionics, but the player says he has learned from the experience, “I accepted again because I've learned a lot and I will learn much more. And this responsibility will be a good thing to me.

“I think that probably no one here in this room will ever live something close that I've lived, not even during the Olympics, but after the World Cup as well," he added. “I was targeted by many critics, a lot of bad things were said.

“I wasn't OK at that very moment (after the game against Belgium) to speak. So when I'm not OK to speak, I prefer to stay silent because silence is the best answer.” Neymar scored a penalty in Brazil’s 2-0 win over the US on Friday evening.
