Bordeaux president Stephane Martin has promised Arsenal a “hard time” as they seek to
negotiate a deal to take 20 year old Brazilian winger Malcom to Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners see Malcom as a replacement for Theo Walcott, who is set to join Premier
League rivals Everton. But Bordeaux will play hard ball.
The Gunners are trying to negotiate a €50m deal for Malcom, but Martin says his club will
not be especially accommodating in negotiations.
“Things are clear with his agents. He has not had his contract extended this summer just to
give him away this winter,” he told L’Equipe.
“We haven’t had any discussions with Arsenal. From our point of view, it’s all hot air. They
can always try, but they will have a hard time taking him from us.”
Arsenal see Malcom as part of their rebuild, with Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott leaving
the club this month and Mesut Özil yet to sign a new contract.
