Klopp Denies That Coutinho Barcelona Move Is ‘Close’
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has denied Barcelona’s claims that they are ‘close’ to completing the signing of Philippe Coutinho. Liverpool have already rejected two bids from the Catalan club this summer.
Barca are expected to come back with a third bid, after Coutinho submitted a transfer request last Friday. Barcelona's general manager Josep Segura said on Wednesday evening that the move was “close” to being completed.
But Klopp bristled against the claim, telling a press conference, “I don't know why other people are saying what they're saying. I don't even know him. I have never met him.
“We have already said what we have to say. [There is] no news from me. Nobody told me anything different since we spoke last time."
Coutinho has yet to play for Liverpool this season due to a back injury and Klopp also confirmed that Coutinho would miss this weekend’s home game with Crystal Palace. “That is always how it is with injured players. I don't know when he will be back. There's nothing new."
