Gustavo Scarpa began the year in the shadow of Fred and Diego Souza, who were the major names at Fluminense. Nevertheless, little by little, especially after the exit of the two, Scarpa assumed the status of protagonist of the team with great performances. To back this up, Scarpa is close to achieving a double figures in numbers of goals and assists in the Brasileirão. To achieve the feat, Gustavo Scarpa needs to score twice and provide the pass for a goal. At the moment, he has eight goals and nine assists in the Brasileirão. Thus, he is the top scorer of the team in the competition and also the player with most assists.
Only Jádson, currently at Tianjin Quanjian of China, achieved a double-double in the Brazilian Championship in 2015. He scored 13 goals and gave 13 assists, helping Corinthians to be champion. In addition, he eventually entered the Team of Tournament, as one of the best midfielders of the competition. With his good performance for Fluminense, Scarpa was even considered in the list of the Brazilian national team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He even got called up for some friendlies of Rogério Micale’s U23 team during the preparation period. However, he ended up missing the Olympics. Now, there are just four matches left for Gustavo Scarpa to achieve the feat. The first chance is already on Tuesday, against Atletico-PR, in a decisive match for Fluminense in the fight for a place in the Libertadores next year.
