São Paulo completed the loan signing of Wellington Nem free of stock for including a clause in the agreement: if Marlos is sold for more than €25 million, then Shakhtar can bring back Nem.
To move to São Paulo on loan, Wellington Nem renewed his bond with Shakhtar Donetsk until 2019, a condition for the transfer to be successful. In the contract between Tricolor and the Ukrainians, a clause has been agreed that allows Shakhtar to bring back Nem, but the possibility is seen as remote. This clause helped São Paulo to save Shakhtar"s initial request of €500,000. If Shakhtar sells Marlos, another Brazilian and one of the club"s major highlight, for more than €25 million, then São Paulo would have to pay a stipulated contract value [not disclosed] to avoid the return of Wellington before the end of the loan period. Initially, Shakhtar did not count on the return of Nem before the end of the loan period and also announced the agreement for a year, just like São Paulo did. Despite the clause, the possibility of Shakhtar selling Marlos is remote. Marlos is 29 years old, which restricts his market, and the president of Shakhtar has no interest in selling him. The fixed purchase-price for São Paulo at the end of the loan period is considered high for the Brazilian market. Wellington Nem was the target of other Brazilian clubs, but São Paulo"s success in getting him for free had a significant participation of businessman Adriano Spadoto. The good relationship of the agent at Shakhtar, where he manages other players, contributed to the success.
