Olympic champion with the Brazilian national team in Rio de Janeiro, left-back Zeca left his Gold medal at the museum of Santos on Friday.
The left-back hopes to win more titles with Santos this season; the team currently sits fifth in the Brazilian Championship table and are also in the the knockout stages of the Copa do Brasil. Zeca, who was wanted by clubs in Europe, aims to stay longer at Santos if they qualify for the Copa Libertadores next year. He said: “Santos are in search of silverware always, we fight on. We got the Paulistão and we want the Brasileirão and the Copa do Brasil. We talked a lot about it. You have to leave it here to take pictures. All are part of it here in Santos. Everyone should be happy with this medal. This medal is unprecedented. We fought a lot, we can and will be remembered for the rest of our lives.”
Zeca had received enquiries from French champions Paris Saint-Germain and La Liga side Atlético Madrid, but chose to stay. He came through the youth system of Santos, and has a contract until December 2018. He added: “It’s a dream to play in the Libertadores for Santos. We were close and we missed out last year. Everyone who came up from the youths to the professionals have this dream. Seeking this qualification, the desire is to stay.”
