A final decision is not yet taken, but Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade is ready to propose the reinstatement of Alexandre Pato to the squad on Tuesday.
Alexandre Pato was on loan at Chelsea from the start of this year, but the Premier League club were not willing to activate the option to purchase him. It’s important to note that Pato’s loan contract is now finished and he’s free to sign a pre-deal with any club from Friday. The 26-year-old was bought by Corinthians for a club-record transfer fee, but it’s possible that they may lose him for free in January 2017. Corinthians could hardly recoup a part of the fee they invested in Pato, and should be the target of big criticism at the end of this year. The reasoning of the leaders is that Pato is capable of having a great Brazilian Championship and then leave the club on a high at the end of the season. Newly appointed coach Cristóvão Borges has publicly stated that Pato is a special player, and that he would receive the player well. The leaders also assess the sporting aspect and understand that Pato can make a large contribute to Corinthians on the pitch.
