Santos want to offer a contract renewal for star player Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, whose current bond runs until September 2019.
According to the information from Lance!, the Santos board intends to make the offer, together with a salary increase, when Gabigol returns from the United States after the Copa América. When contacted, Gabigol’s staff was surprised by the initiative of Santos, but said they’re open to negotiations, reiterating the desire of the player to remain at the club for longer. Behind the scenes, the leaders believe that Gabigol will not leave Santos in the upcoming transfer window. Despite being optimistic about a renewal until 2021, president Modesto Roma thinks that Gabigol can be sold before his contract expires. Santos has 40% of the economic rights of the striker, while Gabigol himself owns another 40%. Investment group Doyen has the remaining 20%.
