22-year-old midfielder Gustavo Scarpa can leave Fluminense in the upcoming transfer window.
Gustavo Scarpa travelled to Italy on Sunday, to speed up the process of getting a EU passport, which greatly facilitates a possible future transfer to Europe. According to Fluminense, the trip had been planned from the beginning of the season. The player has been one of the team’s major highlights since last year and attracts the interest of big clubs. The midfielder took part in the 0-0 draw with Chapecoense on Saturday at Santa Catarina, and then returned to Rio de Janeiro on Sunday afternoon. Late last year, Scarpa had renewed his contract with the Brazilian side until the end of 2019. Fluminense have 45% of his economic rights, and the clubs admits the possibility of selling Scarpa to Europe soon. Fluminense are planning to sell two players from their squad in order to balance their accounts. European clubs are following defender Marlon and Gustavo Scarpa, and both are tipped to leave sooner or later. According to Rádio Tupi, Portuguese club Benfica would be willing to pay €6 million for Scarpa, but Fluminense are holding out for more.
