Claudio Ranieri’s team are currently seven points clear of second placed Tottenham Hotspur, and need just three more wins to seal the Premier League title, which will be a historical achievement for them. But Brazilian football legend Pelé, who has won the World Cup on three occasions, says that Leicester City’s campaign is not a shock for him. Pelé, considered by many to be the greatest player of all time, is coming to England this summer, where he will be interviewed by famous commentator Martin Tyler. He then heads to Birmingham and Manchester as part of the Football For Peace project. Pelé was quoted in Mirror: “For many people, this is a surprise. But for me, this is football. Football is a box of surprises. The Premier League is the best league in the world, so you expect this level of competition. Sometimes the top teams, the strongest teams don’t win. Leicester are a huge surprise because there are no big names in that side. But they are very organised and hard-working.”
Pelé also talked about his compatriot Philippe Coutinho, who has been in excellent form for Liverpool this season. He added: “I travel so much, I don’t get the opportunity to watch too many Premier League games. But I watch some of the big games, the highlights and always the best goals. Coutinho is a player that I follow, along with many other Brazilians that play in the league.”
