After selling Jádson, Ralf and Renato Augusto to Chinese clubs this month, Corinthians are now on the verge of losing another key player from their squad.
Corinthians should not count on defender Gil for their final pre-season fixture against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday. The 2015 Brasileirão champions have accepted a €10 million bid for Gil from Chinese side Shandong Luneng. According to Globo Esporte, Gil left the team’s camp in Orlando on the late afternoon of Tuesday and will return to Brazil to discuss the details of a move to China. Timão owns 90% of the economic rights of Gil, while the rest is with French side Valenciennes, former club of the defender. With the advancement of the negotiations in recent days, coach Tite and the club’s board felt that it would be better to release the player to discuss the transfer in São Paulo.
A starter at the club since 2013, Gil played a total of 184 games, scoring seven goals and won three titles; Paulistão and Recopa Sudamericana in the year of his arrival, and the Brazilian Championship last season.
