Champions League winners Barcelona and Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande face off on Thursday in the semifinals of the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup.
Elkeson was bought by Guangzhou in 2013 from Botafogo, and the striker is now a key player in his team, also becoming the club’s highest goal-scorer in history. Following his winner in the AFC Champions League final against Al Ahli, the Brazilian reached 79 goals for Guangzhou, one more than his compatriot Muriqui.
Guangzhou created many opportunities in the quarterfinal victory over América, but those who watched the game can be assured that the scenario will not be repeated against the European champions. Elkeson told Globo Esporte: “It’s the biggest game of my career, for sure. I hope to have a great game, and same for my team. It will be special for everyone. Chinese football has grown a lot in these three years since I’m in the country. We know how difficult the encounter will be; we expect to make a great presentation. We have to go on the field always thinking about the victory. We know the quality and strength of Barcelona. Anything can happen in the game, but always respecting and admiring all that Barcelona have achieved in recent years.”
