Aged 18, Palmeiras winger Gabriel Jesus has been one of the revelations of the 2015 season in Brazil.
According to reports from Portuguese media, Benfica are closely monitoring the progress of the player. O Jogo writes that Benfica are planning to invest in the “New Phenomenon” – referring to former Brazilian striker Ronaldo. Benfica have been following Gabriel Jesus for months, and the technical profile of the boy appeals to those responsible at the Portuguese club. Besides Benfica, Italian clubs Juventus and AS Roma are also believed to be in the race to sign the teenage sensation. It has been previously reported in Brazil that Gabriel Jesus’ release clause is €30 million, but O Jogo thinks he will be available for around €9m. He was promoted to the professionals this year, and was runner up with Brazil in the recent U20 World Cup. Dunga called him up to the Olympic national team, and he scored on his début against Dominican Republic last week.
