19-year-old Santos forward Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, who rejected a proposal to join Turkish club Fenerbahçe during the last days of the summer transfer window, has revealed his dream to join the Catalan giants.
Recall that, Barcelona acquired a first-option on three Santos youngsters which was part of the deal that took Neymar to Spain in 2013. The players were Victor Andrade, Giva and Gabriel Barbosa, but the first two have already left the club with Barcelona deciding not to activate their option. Gabigol was Santos’ top-scorer last year with 21 goals in his first full season as a professional, and Barça would obviously be keeping an eye on his progress. He was quoted in ESPN: “Playing at Barcelona would be a dream come true, especially because I’m a fan of Messi and Neymar. Everyone dreams to play for Barcelona, and it’s no different for me. It would be an honor to play with the best. To play in the same team as Messi, Suárez and Neymar is really a dream. If it’s meant to be, it will happen.”
