Former Brazil striker Serginho has been speaking about the prevailing atmosphere with the Seleção squad at the World Cup 1982 played in Spain, and did not mince his words on the subject.

In an interview with Resenha Bandsports, the current Santos assistant recalled the defeat against Italy in which Brazil had captivated the world with their technical feats:

“Individually, it was a show but collectively a disaster,” he said. “The atmosphere was not good. The substitutes were not good enough, neither those from Rio nor from other states. However, they were determined to play. The pressure on the first team players was a very important issue. Some players were causing problems, not all, but there was no union.”
