Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool fans not to expect too much too quickly from new signing Roberto Firmino.
Firmino moved to the reds this summer from Hoffeinheim in a deal that could reach £29 million. Many fans believe he could become the new Luis Suarez but Carragher has issued them a stark warning.
“He comes from Brazil, his style is similar to Luis Suarez’s and his form for Hoffenheim was brilliant, leaving fans saying: ‘Imagine what he’ll be like for us!’ That is the mystique of buying players from abroad. Firmino could well be another Suarez; he could also be another Alberto Aquilani.”
Aquilani signed for £17 million in 2009 as a replacement for Xabi Alonso. But instead of dictating the playing field he dictated from the bench in one disappointing season at the club.
