Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed Philippe Coutinho after his FA Cup goal took the team to Wembley.

Coutinho’s strike in the 1-0 win against Blackburn now means Liverpool will play Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi final.

“He had a lot of work to do,” Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com after the final whistle at Ewood Park. It seemed that he had a lot of space but to create the space it needed a wonderfully clever piece of play. His combination play in tight areas is top-class. It was a lovely touch by Jordan (Henderson) to play him into the space.”

Coutinho has been a constant saviour to Liverpool in their FA Cup run and previously struck the winner against Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round.

Next up for Liverpool is Newcastle on Wednesday.

“He had a lot of work to do,” Rodgers told Liverpoolfc.com after the final whistle at Ewood Park.
