Southampton manager Ronald Koeman had admitted that the Coutinho goal which helped Liverpool beat his team 2-0 was just too good.

Philippe Coutinho was 30 yards out when he let fly and the ball zipped into the top corner off the underside of the bar. Despite having much of the play following the goal, Southampton couldn’t find an equaliser and Raheem Sterling made it 2-0.

The result is a massive one for Liverpool in the race for the top four. There are now only 4 points separating Arsenal in third and Tottenham in seventh. Liverpool and Southampton are sandwiched between them.

Koeman was quick to acknowledge that Coutinho’s goal was the catalyst.

“It’s a great goal. A great shot. The keeper can’t do anything about that.”
