Sampdoria could be set to make a move for Marseille defender Dória, according to reports.

Tuttomercatoweb, as cited by Football Italia, claims that the Italian Serie A outfit want to secure the 20 year-old on a free loan agreement, with an option to make the switch permanent in the future.

Dória was signed by Marseille from Botafogo for a reported fee of €5 million in September 2014, but has so far struggled to make an impression.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa was reportedly against his arrival and, as such, is yet to give him any playing time this season.

With his situation seemingly unlikely to change before the end of the campaign, Dória has been linked with the likes of São Paulo and various Italian clubs throughout the winter transfer window.

As yet, no move has materialised, but with Sampdoria pursuing a replacement for Daniele Gastaldello, who has joined Bologna, a switch may now take place.

French centre-back Modibo Diakité is expected to sign on a free transfer as an insurance, but Tuttomercatoweb states Dória is very much a target.
