Pato lost his place in the starting XI towards the end of the season to Luís Fabiano.
Campeonato Paulista is set to start and Pato wasn’t included in the starting XI training, either. But the coach says he’ll have his chances and needs to make full use of it. Muricy was quoted in Globo Esporte: “Sure, he will have opportunities. Don’t give up. He’s a very good player and we like him very much. I think when we give the opportunity, he’ll grab it. We strongly believe in him.”
Alexandre Pato scored 12 goals for São Paulo last year, 8 goals less than Luís Fabiano. São Paulo should be without Paulo Henrique Ganso and midfielder Souza for the opening game as both are injured. The preferred XI of São Paulo is as follows: Rogério Ceni; Bruno, Rafael Tolói, Édson Silva, Carlinhos; Denílson, Maicon, Thiago Mendes; Alan Kardec Michel Bastos; Luís Fabiano.
