Manchester United defender Rafael has discussed the departure of former team mates Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra and admitted he was sad to lose so many friends.

Ferdinand moved to Premier League rivals Queens Park Rangers in the summer, whilst Evra and Vidic departed for Serie A.

Evra moving to Juventus and Vidic to Internazionale, leaving Rafael as one of the senior players at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian told the Official Manchester United website that he is delighted to be at Manchester still, after he was linked with a move.

And he wants to remain with the club for a long time, but acknowledges he needs to continue playing well.

Rafael said: Jonny [Evans] as well, of course. I am glad (to be a senior player) but sad because a lot of friends have left.

"I am glad I am still here. I want to keep going and stay here forever, if possible. It depends on me to play well, I need to play well. I just want to stay here."
