FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke has praised the 2014 World Cup and hailed it as a “fantastic tournament”.

Ahead of the competition in Brazil, several issues need resolving and many were concerned it would be dominated by failures with construction and protests.

However that hasn’t been the case and Valcke admits his expectations have been surpassed and believes on the pitch is has been the best World Cup ever.

He told SporTV: “What we’re seeing in the streets of the host cities is what everyone was hoping for from Brazil.

“It’s undoubtedly been the best World Cup on the pitch. It’s proving to be a fantastic tournament. I think off the pitch we had some small hitches at the stadiums going into the tournament.

“There were a lot of finishing touches to complete, but since we arrived and the action kicked off, we haven’t had any problems. Expectations have been surpassed.”

The Secretary General now believes it is time everybody enjoyed the remaining matches of the competition and go away from this tournament happy.

Valcke added: “Now is the time to enjoy the best part of the tournament and see which teams make the semi-finals.

“I’ve enjoyed the tournament and I’m not stressed. I think I’ve seen 15 matches while travelling all over Brazil and I’m going to watch the remaining games to make sure I can go away happy as I think everyone should.”
