New Flamengo player Hector Canteros yesterday arrived in Rio de Janeiro to put the finishing touches on a move to Brazil from Argentine club velez Sarsfield ahead of the resumption of domestic football.
With league matches suspended in order to help a smooth running of the World Cup, Flamengo have taken the chance to register a new player in a bid to halt their horrid early season form; the Copa do Brasil champions currently lie in 19th place after nine games.
And Argentina midfielder Canteros briefly told the waiting media: “I’m happy with the trip (to get to Rio). I am now going to the hotel. I am happy.”
The player is believed to have signed a three year deal with Flamengo and will undergo medical assessments later on in the week as the transfer seeks completion.
